Being EAEU member economically beneficial for Armenia - Alen Simonyan

ArmInfo. What Russia is losing in the region in connection with Armenia is due to the actions of the Russian Federation, its withdrawal from the region and leaving Armenia alone. This was stated by the Speaker of the Armenian  Parliament Alen Simonyan on January 21 in a conversation with  journalists in parliament, touching upon the approval by the Armenian  Cabinet of Ministers of the draft law .

According to him, the process of joining the EU is the will of the  Armenian people, which will be discussed in parliament, and then a  decision will be made on it. At the same time, he believes that this  decision should not cause concern for the Russian side. And if these  are problems for the Russian Federation, then there is no problem  that Yerevan and Moscow cannot discuss and find a solution to, he  added. , he noted.

At the same time, Simonyan believes that it is wrong to look at the  issue one-sidedly, since Russia itself has decided to leave the  region and left Armenia to solve its problems alone. "You can't blame  Armenia for trying to ensure its existence and security," he said.

On January 9, the Armenian government approved a draft law on the  beginning of the process of joining the European Union, proposed by  the civil initiative "Eurakve". The draft will soon be discussed in  the Armenian parliament.

Armenia's accession to the European Union (EU) is incompatible with  the country's membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). If  ties with the EAEU are curtailed, energy prices will rise and exports  will decline in the republic, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei  Overchuk told reporters on the same day. He later noted that Moscow  views Yerevan's decision to launch the process of joining the  European Union (EU) as the beginning of Armenia's withdrawal from the  Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). , the Russian Deputy Prime  Minister noted.
