
ArmInfo. The Ministry of Economy of Armenia and the Hungarian airline Wizz Air considered the possibility of launching new routes, increasing the frequency of flights and expanding cooperation with the Tourism Committee of Armenia.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Economy, citing the results of the meeting of the head of the department Gevorg Papoyan, the chairman of the Tourism Committee Lusine Gevorgyan with the delegation of Wizz Air Group.
According to the source, the parties discussed the company's future activities in Armenia and issues related to increasing the tourist flow. The minister noted that there is a need to develop and present to the Armenian side a map of proposals and actions.
WizzAir is a low-cost Hungarian airline that was established in September 2003 with headquarters in Vecses. The main investor was the American private company Indigo Partners, specializing in investments in transport. The airline carried out its first flight in May 2004 from Katowice.
In 2019, the airline's Director of Corporate Affairs WizzAir announced that the company intended to operate flights to Armenia in 2020. In March 2020, WizzAir's first flight was Vienna-Yerevan-Vienna.
In total, the airline's route network includes more than 100 cities in 32 countries.
According to the Statistical Committee of Armenia, passenger transportation by air in January-November 2024 decreased by 0.9% per annum, amounting to 4,987.9 thousand people.
According to the Tourism Committee, 2.14 million tourists visited Armenia in 2024, which is 7.4% lower than the figure for the previous year.
