
ArmInfo. From March 31 to April 4, 2025, Armenian interbank foreign exchange market saw daily dollar transactions and only two ruble transactions, with no euro transactions recorded. This led to a shift in the weekly trend, with transactions going from a 31% increase to an 18% decline, while ruble transactions continued to decline, albeit at a slower rate from 30.3% to 17.4%. As a result, dollar transactions remained dominant over ruble transactions for the week with a 2.5 higher volume. In the intra-bank foreign exchange market during the reporting week (31.03-04.04.25 compared to 24-28.03.25) there was no increase in dollar purchases along with a decrease in sales, while euro grew despite a slower decline in sales. Ruble transactions saw a faster decline in purchases and an increase in sales compared to the previous week.
From March 31 to April 4 of this year, the dram began to weaken against the dollar dropping from AMD391 to AMD 391.5/$1, against the euro - from AMD422.8 to AMD431 /1 EUR, and simultaneously strengthening against the ruble - from AMD 4.63 to AMD 4.57/1RUB. A year earlier, on April 4, 2024, the dram exchange rate to the dollar was AMD 390 /$1, to the euro - AMD 423/1EUR, and to the ruble - AMD 4.19 /1RUB. This indicates an annual devaluation of the dram against the dollar, euro and ruble compared to the current rates. According to the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia, in the interbank foreign exchange market from March 31 to April 4 of this year, the total volume of dollar transactions exceeded $13.982 million at an average rate of AMD 392 /$1 (compared to AMD 393.09/$1 a week earlier), and the total volume of ruble transactions amounted to 475 million rubles at an average rate of AMD 4.61/1 RUB (compared to AMD 4.64/1 RUB a week earlier). The interbank foreign exchange market was active throughout the reporting week, with daily dollar transactions and ruble transactions only on Tuesday and Thursday (April 1 and 3). The largest volume of dollar transactions "occurred" on Thursday (April 3) - $5 million, while the largest volume of ruble transactions was on Tuesday (April 1) - 250 million rubles.
From March 31 to April 4, 2025, there was a significant change in currency transactions compared with the previous week (24-28.03.25). Dollar purchase accelerated from 8.6% to 19.5% , while sales trends shifted from a16.5% growth towards a 2.2% decline. The euro purchase trend went from a 20% decline to an 83% growth with sales decline slowing from 16.5% to 3%. In ruble transactions, the decline in purchases accelerated from 15.2% to 21.3%, while sales trend changed from a 53% decline to a 45.1% growth. As a result, over $163.7 million was purchased during the reporting week at an average rate of AMD 389.79 /$1, 46.8 million euros at an average rate of AMD 421.25 /1EUR, and 12.02 billion rubles at an average rate of AMD 4.60 /1RUB, and $219.7 million was sold at an average rate of AMD 392.60 /$1, 80.7 million euros at an average rate of AMD 428.02 /1EUR, and 3.8 billion rubles at an average rate of AMD 4.68 /1RUB. The largest volume of purchase and sale of dollars and rubles was recorded on Monday (March 31 - $74.8- 44.8 million and 2.8-1.3 billion rubles), and the peak euro purchases occurred on Friday (April 4 - 16.5 million euros) with the maximum sales on Thursday (April 3 - 21.8 million euros).
According to the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia, in 2024, the Central Bank only intervened in the foreign exchange market from April to October in the amount of $705.5 million, and these were only purchase operations ($20 million in April, $136.5 million in May, $100 million in June, $110 million in July, $132.3 million in August, $119 million , in September and $87.7 million in October). In terms of purchase operations, the dram exchange rate weakened AMD 388.03 /$1 by October from the September 2023 rate of AMD 386.60/$1, when the last purchase operations were carried out. However, it strengthened compared to the December 2022 rate of AMD 393.50 /$1.
In 2024, in the intra-bank foreign exchange market, $6.8 billion, 1.7 billion euros and 770.7 billion rubles were purchased, and $9.96 billion, 3.6 billion euros and 266.1 billion rubles were sold. This formed the purchase rate on the intra-bank foreign exchange market in December at the level of AMD 394.84 /$1, AMD 413.75/1EUR and AMD 3.84r/1 RUB, and the sale rate at the level of AMD 398.16/$1, AMD 420.09 /1EUR and AMD 3.97 /1RUB compared to AMD 402.72 /$1, AMD 437.90/1EUR, AMD 4.43/1 RUB - for buying, and AMD 406.14 /$1, AMD 445.57/1 EUR, AMD 4.50 /1 RUB - for selling in December 2023.
In 2024, transactions totaling $993.4 million in dollars, 39.2 billion in rubles and 47.8 million in euros were made in the interbank foreign exchange market. to (no transactions with this currency were made only in June and November). The dram strengthened against both the ruble reaching AMd 3.84 /1 RUB in December, and the dollar reaching AMD 396.1/$1 compared to AMD 4.47 /1 RUBe and AMD 405.62 /$1, in December 2023. In the interbank foreign exchange market, the largest volumes of dollar and euro transactions ($195.3 million and 14.4 million euros) were made in September, and ruble transactions in August (7.2 billion rubles). The currency exchange platform, after eight years of "silence", resumed operations in June 2024, with $14.7 million in dollar transactions conducted from June to October. The dram strengthened from AMD 388.90/ $ 1 in June to AMD 387.75 / $ 1 in October. In November- December, the currency exchange platform was inactive. Let us recall that ruble transactions in the Armenian interbank currency market started on March 14, 2022. From that moment until the end of the year, transactions totaling 8.7 billion rubles were carried out, with additional 17.5 billion rubles for the whole of 2023. This was accompanied by a weakening of the dram against the ruble in March-December 2022, dropping from AMD 4.86 to AMD 5.8 drams / 1 RUB.
