USD transactions up in Armenia`s interbank foreign exchange market  Apr 7 to 11, 2025 

ArmInfo. April 7 to 11, 2025, in Armenia's interbank foreign exchange market, three USD and two RUB transactions were effected, with no EUR transactions effected.  USD transactions showed a 13% growth against an 18% decline the previous week. The volume of RUB transactions was the same as the previous week. The total amount of USD transactions exceeded that of RUB  transactions 2.8-fold against 2.5-fold. 

During the period under review against the previous week (March 31 to  Apr 4, 2025) in the intrabank foreign exchange market, USD sales  showed an accelerating decline, with USD purchases showing a decline,  EUR purchases and sales showing the same trends, RUB purchases  showing a slower decline and RUB sales showing a decline. 

The period under review saw the AMD/USD exchange rate at AMD  391.5/$1, with further AMD depreciation against the EUR - AMD 431/EUR  1 to AMD 440.5/EUR 1, and an AMD depreciation trend against the RUB -  AMD 4.57/RUB 1 to AMD 4.60 RUB 1. 

On April 11, 2024, the AMD/USD exchange rate was AMD 396/$1, AMD/EUR  exchange rate, AMD 426/EUR 1, and AMD/RUB exchange rate, AMD 4.21/RUB  1, which is evidence of y/y AMD appreciation against the USD and AMD  depreciation against the EUR and RUB.  

April 7 to 11, 2024, US $15,750 mln transactions were effected at an  average exchange rate of AMD 391.76/$1 (against AMD 392/$1 the  previous week), RUB 4 75mln transactions, at an average exchange rate  of AMD 4.58/RUB 1 (against AMD 4.61/RUB 1 the previous week). The  interbank foreign exchange market showed activity during the period  under review, except for April 7, with both USD and RUB transactions  effected on April 9 alone. The period under review saw the largest  volume of USD transactions on April 8 ($8.250mln), and the largest  volume of RUB transactions on April 11 (RUB 350mln).

April 7 to 11, 2025, against the previous period (March 31 to April  4, 2025), in Armenia's intrabank foreign exchange market, USD  purchases showed an 30.7% decline against a 19.5% growth, with USD  sales showing a 10.8% decline against a 2.2% decline. RUB purchases  showed a 4.2% decline against a 21.3% decline, and RUB sales showed a  15.3% decline against a 45.1% growth.  EUR purchases showed a 34%  decline against an 82.5% growth, with EUR sales showing a 27.8%  decline against a 3% decline. 

During the period under review, USD purchases totaled $113.4 mln at  an average exchange rate of AMD 389.38/$1, EUR 30.9mln at an average  exchange rate of AMD 426.88/EUR 1, and over RUB 11.51bln at an  average exchange rate of AMD 4.55/RUB 1. USD sales totaled $195.9 mln  at an average exchange rate of AMD 392.54/$1. EUR sales totaled  58.3mln an average exchange rate of AMD 434.93/EUR 1, and RUB sales  RUB 3.2bln at an average exchange rate of AMD 4.64/RUB 1. 

The largest USD and EUR sales were reported on April 9 ($56.1mln and  EUR 14.1mln), with the largest USD purchases recorded on April 8  ($31.9mln). The largest EUR puchases were recorded on April 7 (EUR  8.1mln). The largest RUB sales were recorded on Apriul 7 ((RUB  1.42bln) with the largest RUB purchases recorded on April 11 (RUB  2.7bln). 

In January-December, 2024, the CBA made $705.5mln interventions in  Armenia's foreign exchange market only in April-October, with only  purchase transactions effected ($20mln in April, $136.5mln in May,  $100mln in June and $110mln in July, $132.3mln in August, $119mln in  September, and $87.7mln in October). In the case of purchase  transactions the AMD exchange rate saw depreciation to AMD 388.03/$1  in October 2024 against AMD 386.60/$1 in September 2023, when  purchase translations were last effected, with appreciation against  December 2022 (AMD 393.50/$1). 

In January-December, 2024, in the intrabank foreign exchange market,  purchases totaled $6.8bln, over EUR 1.7bln and RUB 770.7bln, and  sales totaled $9.96bln, EUR 3.6bln and RUB 266.1bln, which formed the  following buying rates in December 2024: the AMD 394.84/$1, AMD  413.75/EUR 1 and AMD 3.84./RUB 1 against AMD 402.72/$1, and AMD  437.90/EUR 1 and RUB 4.43/1 RUB in December 2023.  The selling rates  were as follow: AMD 398.16/$1, AMD, 420.09/EUR 1, and AMD 3.97/RUB 1  against AMD 406.14/$1, AMD 445.57/EUR 1 and AMD 4.5/RUB 1 in December  2023.

In January-December, 2024, on the interbank foreign exchange market,  $993.4 mln, EUR 47.8mln, RUB 39.2bln transactions, with no EUR  transactions effected in June and November 2024, which was  accompanied by AMD appreciation against the RUB to AMD 3.84/RUB 1,  and against the USD, AMD 396.1/$1, against AMD 4.47/RUB 1, AMD  405.62/$1 respectively in December 2023. 

The largest volume of USD and EU transactions ($195.3mln and EUR  14.4mln) was recorded in September 2024, with the largest volume RUB  transactions recorded this August (RUB 7.2bln). 

In June, 2024, after an 8-year-long interval, the foreign exchange  stock market resumed operation and saw $14.718mln transactions (in  June-October), accompanied by AMD appreciation - AMD 387.75/$1 last  October against AMD 389.85/$1 last June. No transactions were  effected on the foreign exchange stock market last November and  December. 

RUB transactions on the interbank foreign exchange market of Armenia  started on March 14, 2022, with RUB 8.7bln transactions effected  until the end of that year, with RUB 17.5bln transactions effected in  2023. This was accompanied by AMD depreciation against the RUB in  March-December 2022 - AMD 4.86 to AMD 5.8/RUB 1, with AMD  appreciation against the RUB to AMD 4.47/RUB 1 by the end of 2023.
