Gagik Makaryan: Georgia carrying out terror against cognac production in Armenia

ArmInfo. The Chairman of the Republican Union of Employers of Armenia and the head of the Center for Social and Economic Development referred to the  situation on Armenian-Georgian border as Georgia's terror against the cognac  production in Armenia. He made this statement during a protest  outside the Georgian Embassy in Armenia. The protest involved representatives of companies whose vehicles carrying cognac products have been detained at the border for over 40 days due to Georgia conducting  laboratory examinations on products, which are in transit to the country. The producers stated  that such checks are not required by  law.

Makaryan drew attention to the fact that the Georgian side has all the documentation from Armenian producers, including information on their partners, the content of the cognac products, delivery costs, etc.  , the RUEA head clarified. 

 He added that the volume of Georgian cognac exports is 1.5 million bottles per year, while Armenia exports about 250 million bottles of cognac. Makaryan also called for public attention to the fact that Azerbaijan and Turkey occupy leading places in the list of Georgia's trade partners. Russia and other countries come after them in the list. According to the expert,  Georgia  is trying to please this tandem by pursuing such a policy towards Armenia. In this regard, Makaryan cited data on Georgia's trade turnover, noting that their export volume is $3-3.5 billion, while imports have reached $11 billion. That is, Georgia's trade deficit is about 70%. 

The head of the Center considered it appropriate for Armenian  representatives to appeal to the World Trade Organization in this situation. , Makaryan expressed his bewilderment. Additionally, he noted that the Armenian side should also bring this issue to the attention of the EAEU, as the goods were intended for the Eurasian market. , the head of the Union emphasized.
