ArmInfo. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Tatyana Molchan. During the meeting he emphasized the importance of the continued development of cooperation between Armenia and various UN structures, including the UN Economic Commission for Europe.
As reported by the press service of the Armenian Prime Minister, Pashinyan noted that Armenia highly appreciates the role of the UN system in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals, enhancing cooperation in the environmental and economic spheres, as well as in capacity building. During the meeting, issues related to the expansion of cooperation between Armenia and UN structures, including the UNECE, and the implementation of joint programs were discussed. The parties touched upon the potential for further sectoral cooperation, specifically in energy and infrastructure development, as well as Armenia's progress in implementing the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Pashinyan presented the Armenian government's vision for modernizing and improving infrastructure, including in the transport, logistics, energy and digital sectors. In this context, the Armenian government's Crossroads of Peace initiative was mentioned, which is aimed at unblocking regional transport routes based on the principles of territorial integrity, sovereignty, jurisdiction and reciprocity. The interlocutors also touched upon the 17th Conference on Biological Diversity (COP-17) to be held in Armenia in 2026, emphasizing its strategic importance in both the regional and global environmental agendas.
Molchan stated the readiness of the UN Economic Commission for Europe to continue cooperation with the Armenian government, particularly in the areas of sustainable development, water management and environmental protection.
