ArmInfo. Within the framework of his working visit to Japan, Vice Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Hakob Arshakyan held a meeting with Mr Hiroyuki Nagahama, Vice President of the House of Councillors, Parliament of Japan.
During the meeting, as reported by the press service of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, the parties discussed issues on the agenda of Armenian-Japanese bilateral cooperation.
The Vice Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia emphasized that Armenia highly appreciates the comprehensive development of relations with Japan, based on mutual respect and democratic values. He noted that Armenia is interested in deepening parliamentary cooperation, given the central role of the legislative bodies of the two countries.
Hakob Arshakyan expressed gratitude for the support provided to Armenia by Japan, emphasizing the importance of Tokyo's participation in the economic development of Armenia. It was emphasized that the parties have untapped potential for expanding economic and investment relations, tourism and humanitarian exchanges. During the meeting, Hakob Arshakyan noted with satisfaction the fact that the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan awarded the Japanese scientist Yoshiaki with a state award for his contribution to high technology in the automotive industry.
The parties also touched upon the World Expo 2025, noting that Armenia, with its separate pavilion, presents the country's economic, cultural, technological, educational and tourism potential. In this context, the activities of the Tumo Gunma educational center were also noted, which will provide 1,500 students with access to modern professions and skill development.
The Vice Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia reaffirmed Armenia's commitment to the peacebuilding agenda in the region, emphasizing the importance of unblocking communications, promoting economic cooperation and implementing the Crossroads of Peace initiative. He noted that Armenia is ready to sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan and expects a constructive approach from the other side.
Mr Hiroyuki Nagahama expressed support for the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace process, emphasizing its importance for ensuring long-term and sustainable peace in the region.
Mr Hiroyuki Nagahama highly appreciated the opening of the Tumo Center for Creative Technologies in Japan, considering it an important initiative in terms of deepening educational cooperation and developing Armenian-Japanese relations. He expressed special gratitude for the introduction of the Armenian innovative educational model in Japan.
Mr Hiroyuki Nagahama also noted that there is significant potential for cooperation in the field of high technologies and confirmed his readiness to support the development of economic cooperation.
Mr Hiroyuki Nagahama reported that the Agreement on the Avoidance of Double Taxation between Armenia and Japan has been ratified by both houses of the Japanese Parliament, expressing hope that it will serve to increase bilateral trade turnover.
At the end of the meeting, the parties confirmed the importance of mutual support on international platforms as an important factor in strengthening bilateral relations.
