In Armenian interbank foreign exchange market, dollar transactions decreased, while ruble transactions increased June 23 to June 27, 2025

ArmInfo. On the Armenian interbank currency market, there has been  a decrease in dollar transactions and a significant increase in ruble transactions. Euro transactions have not been conducted for a month. Specifically, the weekly trend for ruble transactions shifted from a 73.3% decline to a 5.3-fold increase, while dollar transactions went from a 2.3-fold increase to a 41% decline. As a result, ruble transactions are now prevailing over dollar transactions  by 2 times, whereas just a week ago, dollar transactions were ahead of  ruble transactions by 4.3  times.

At the same time, in the intra-bank foreign exchange market during the reporting week (23-27.06.25 compared to 16-20.06.25) there was an increase in the purchase of dollars along with faster sales growth, the purchase of euros saw a decline while sales increased, and in ruble transactions both  purchases and sales moved from decline to growth.

From 23 to 27 June this year, the dram began strengthened against the dollar - from AMD 386.8 to AMD 384.5 /$1, and against the ruble - from AMD 4.89 to AMD 4.85/1 RUB, while continuing to weaken against the euro - from AMD 443.8 to AMD 446.5/1EUR. A year earlier, on June 27, 2024, the dram was valued at AMD 388/$1,  AMD 417 /1EUR and  4.45  AMD/1RUB, which, compared to current rates, indicates an annual revaluation of the dram to the dollar, and a devaluation to the euro and ruble. According to the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia, there were three dollar transactions and  four ruble transactions in the interbank foreign exchange  market from June 23 to 27 this year. During the reporting week, the currency market was active, with dollar and ruble transactions happening simultaneously only on Tuesday and Friday (June 24 and 27). On other days, there were either only dollar transactions (Monday - June 23) or only ruble  transactions (Wednesday and Thursday - June 25 and 26). As a result, the total weekly volume of dollar transactions was $6.5 million with an average rate of AMD 385.03/$1 (compared to AMD 385.33/$1 a week earlier), and the total volume of ruble transactions was 1.050 billion rubles with an average rate of AMD 4.89/1RUB (compared to AMD 4.91 /1RUB a week earlier). The highest volume of dollar transactions "appeared" on Monday (June 23) - $3.5 million, and the largest volume  of ruble transactions occurred on Thursday (June 26) - 400 million rubles.

In the intrabank foreign exchange market from June 23 to 27 of this year, compared to the previous week (16-20.06.25), the dollar buying trend went from a 0.3% decline to a 13.5% growth with sales growth accelerating from 2.4% to 7.4%. The euro buying trend, on the contrary, turned around from a 17.8% growth towards a 10.6% decline with the sales trend going from a 17.7% decline to an 8.3% growth, and the ruble buying and selling trend turned around from a 0.1-10.7% decline to a 5.8-81.3% growth. As a result, during the reporting week, $181.9 million was purchased at an average rate of AMD 383.75/$1, over 36 million euros at an average rate of AMD 442.28/1EUR, and over 17 billion rubles at an average rate of AMD 4.88/1RUB, and $286.6 million were sold at an average rate of AMD 386.76/$1, 47.3 million euros at an average rate of AMD 450.38 /1EUR, and 3.61 billion rubles at an average rate of AMD 4.96 /1RUB.  The largest volume of dollar purchases and euro sales occurred on Thursday (June 26 - $43.8 million and 12.96 million euros), the maximum volume of dollar sales and ruble purchases was recorded on Monday (June 23 - $92.2 million and 5.1 billion rubles), and the largest volumes of euro purchases and ruble sales occurred on Wednesday and Friday (June 25 - 8.94 million euros and June 27 - 1.13 billion rubles). 

According to the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia, in the first quarter of 2025, the Central Bank intervened in the foreign exchange market in February and March alone for a total of $94 million, strengthening the exchange rate from AMD 394.19 /$1 in February to AMD 393.14 /$1 in March, and these were solely purchase operations.

In the intra-bank foreign exchange market in the first quarter of  2025, $1.5 billion, 444.5 million euros and 171.8 billion rubles were purchased, while $2.2 billion, 892.2 million euros and 51.1 billion rubles were sold. This resulted in the purchase rate in the intra-bank foreign exchange market in March at the level of AMD 390.77/$1, AMD 419.57 /1EUR and AMD 4.53 /1RUB, and the sale rate at the level of AMD 394.14 /$1, AMD 426.95 /1EUR and AMD 4.65/1 RUB, against the December 2024 AMD 394.84/$1, AMD 413.75/1EUR,  AMD 3.84/1RUB - for purchase, and AMD 398.16 /$1, AMD 420.09/1EUR, AMD  3.97 /1 RUB - for sale. In the interbank foreign exchange market in Q1 2025, there were dollar transactions totaling $191 million and ruble transactions totaling 6.8 billion. Euro transactions only occurred in February-March for a total of 1.7 million euros. The dram weakened against the ruble and euro in the interbank foreign exchange market to AMD 4.54 /1 RUB and AMD 426.25 /1 EUR in March, while it slightly strengthened against the dollar to AMD 393.65/$1, compared to December 2024's  AMD 3.84 /1 RUB, AMD 414.25/1 EUR and AMD 396.1/$1, respectively. 

In the interbank foreign exchange market for this period, the largest volume of dollar transactions was made in January ($81 million), ruble transactions in March (2.95 billion rubles), and euro transactions in February (1 million euros). The currency exchange platform, after eight years of "silence", resumed its operations in June 2024. In the five months (June-October) dollar transactions were carried out for a total of $14.7 million, accompanied by the strengthening of the dram from June AMD 388.90 to October AMD 387.75/$1. In November-December, the currency exchange platform was empty. In 2025, in the first quarter, dollar transactions for $1.850 million were carried out on the foreign exchange platform, accompanied by the strengthening of the dram from AMD 398.75 in  January to AMD 393.14 /$1 in March.  Recall that ruble transactions in the interbank foreign exchange market of Armenia started on March 14, 2022. From that point until the end of the year, transactions totaling 8.7 billion rubles were carried out, and another 17.5 billion rubles for the whole of 2023. This was accompanied by a weakening of the dram against the ruble in the interbank foreign exchange market in March-December 2022 from AMD 4.86 to AMD 5.8 /1 ruble. However, there was a reversal, and  by the end of 202, the  dram had strengthened against the ruble to AMD 4.47 /1RUB and further improved to AMD 3.84 /1RUB by the end of 2024.
