ArmInfo. The industrial sector of Armenia, which was one of the drivers of economic growth a year ago, fell by 12.1% in the first half of 2025 (against 18.2% growth a year earlier), providing a volume of 1.2 trillion drams ($3.2 billion). According to the data of the RA Statistical Committee, in June alone, the industrial sector grew by 2.5% - to 227 billion drams ($590.5 million).
The deterioration in the annual dynamics was provoked by a reduction in the volume of the manufacturing industry, while a year ago double-digit growth was recorded. A sharp decline in the volumes of dominant production segments, in particular basic metals, beverages, and other non-metallic products, led to this outcome of the manufacturing sector.
Thus, according to statistics, the manufacturing industry decreased by 19.1% y/y (against growth of 27.7% a year earlier), amounting to 840 billion drams.
The most noticeable decline was in the production of basic metals - by 73.8%, jewelry industry - by 69.2%, leather goods - by 26.4%, other non-metallic products - by 15.4%, beverages - by 14.7%.
At the same time, high growth rates were demonstrated by the production of coke and oil products - by 2.3 times, machinery and equipment - by 2.2 times, computers, electronic and optical equipment - by 69.3%, cigarettes - by 66.3%, chemical industry - by 59.3%.
In the manufacturing industry, the leading products in terms of production volumes are traditionally food products (265.7 billion drams), cigarettes (143.8 billion), basic metals (91 billion), beverage production (89 billion), and other non-metallic products (71.1 billion drams).
At the same time, the mining sector managed to exit the 9.2% decline by 0.6% in the first half of the year, providing a volume of 221.7 billion drams.
According to statistics, the supply of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning in January-June 2025 slowed down in growth from 13% to 11.5% year-on-year, amounting to 181 billion drams, with a growth of 3.9% in June - to 25.4 billion drams. Moreover, the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity during the reporting period increased by 13.1% per annum, and gas production, distribution of gaseous fuel through gas supply systems - by 5%.
Revenues from water supply, waste treatment and processing and obtaining secondary raw materials during the reporting period slowed in annual growth from 5.3% to 1.1%, amounting to 15.1 billion drams.
In June alone, this figure increased by 10.5% - to 2.8 billion drams. Moreover, the upward annual dynamics in this segment was mainly due to an increase in revenues from the collection and treatment of wastewater.
It should be noted that the average settlement exchange rate of the dram against the US dollar in January- June 2025 was 391.31 drams / $ 1, and in June - 384.22 drams / $ 1.
