ArmInfo. According to the results of 2024, Armenia increased sugar imports by 41.6% to 97.9 thousand tons. The customs value increased by 36.8%, amounting to $57 million. As in the previous year, the main sugar import markets for Armenia are Brazil and Russia. This is evidenced by the data of the RA Customs Service.
In particular, 57.7 thousand tons of sugar were supplied from Brazil (59% of the total volume), 38.7 thousand tons (39.5%) from Russia, 1.5 thousand tons (1.5%) from Belarus. The remaining volume was imported to the Armenian market from Kazakhstan, Colombia, Italy, Germany, Croatia, Mauritius, the Czech Republic, China, and India. Less than one ton was supplied from the United Kingdom, Mauritania, Turkey, Belgium, Guatemala, Costa Rica, South Africa, France, Reunion, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.
The volume of sugar exports from Armenia amounted to 697.5 tons, with an annual decrease of 2.7%, with a decrease in customs value by 4.3% - to $779 thousand.
The lion's share of sugar exports also went to the Russian market (97.8%), the remaining volumes were supplied to the United States (1.6%) and Georgia (0.4%). Up to 1 ton was exported to Turkmenistan and Germany.
According to previously available data, 99.9% of sugar imports to Armenia come from the Alex-Grig company, owned by the family of Armenian oligarch Samvel Aleksanyan.
According to the RA Statistical Committee, sugar and granulated sugar, after rising in price by 38.1% in 2020 and by 19.8% in 2021, then began to fall in price - by 2.1% in 2022, by 6.1% in 2023 and by 4.2% in 2024. This trend continued in 2025 - the annual decline in prices for sugar and granulated sugar in July was 4.7%.
