
ArmInfo.In 2024, Armenia imported 316,000 tons of wheat, which is 8.1% lower than the same period last year. 99.9% of the wheat was imported from the Russian Federation, with the remaining volume coming from Belarus and Slovakia. The customs value of imported wheat for the reporting year decreased by 3.3% - to $ 60.7 million, according to data from the Customs Service of the Republic of Armenia.
Wheat exports decreased by 68.7% to 38.4 tons, with a decrease in customs value by 92.8% to $ 12.8 thousand. Most of the wheat exports went to Russia. During the reporting year, corn imports decreased by 1.7% to 68.2 thousand tons, while the customs value increased by 4.6% to $14.1 million. 99.7% of corn was imported from Russia, with the remaining volume coming from France, Belarus, Turkey, Italy, Iran, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, and Serbia. Conversely, corn exports saw a significant increase - to 112.6 tons, with a corresponding rise in customs value to $1.4 million. All of this volume was delivered to the Russian Federation. In 2024, 42.3 thousand tons of wheat flour were imported into the country, showing a decrease of 35.5% compared to the previous year. The customs value increased by 1.9% to $10.2 million. 98.9% was imported from Russia, and the remaining volume came from Italy, Kazakhstan, Belarus, and France. Armenia increased its wheat flour exports by 2.3 times reaching 81.7 tons. The customs value of exported wheat flour also increased by 2.5 times to $ 55.8 thousand. The majority of exports (95%) went to the US market, with the remaining volume distributed between the Russian Federation and Kazakhstan.
According to the RA Statistical Committee, the production of finely ground wheat-rye flour in Armenia decreased by 18.5% in 2023, exceeding 175.7 thousand tons. Flour prices, which grew by 10-7.6% from 2020 to 2022, decreased by 19.9% in 2023. However, in 2024, they increased again by 5.2%, continuing to rise more rapidly in 2025, by 8.4% per annum in July. Wheat groats, after increasing in price by 11.5-13.3% from 2020 to 2022, then saw a 6.9% decrease in 2023 and only a 0.9% decrease in 2024. After that, they began to rise in price again in 2025, by 4.4% per annum in July.
