ArmInfo. On September 2, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Economic Affairs adopted the draft law on ratification of the Convention for the "Avoidance of Double Taxation on Income and Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to Taxes and on Capital" between the Republic of Armenia and Japan.
As Deputy Finance Minister Arman Poghosyan stated, the government's program includes an important direction of tax policy - expanding the reach of agreements on the elimination of double taxation. "This is especially important with those countries where there is potential for strengthening economic ties and attracting investments. It was in this context that the Convention on the Avoidance of Double Taxation on Income between Armenia and Japan was initiated and signed on December 26, 2024," Poghosyan noted.
According to him, these agreements address two main issues: they establish more favorable tax conditions than what national legislation offers, and provide a stable and predictable tax environment for entrepreneurs from both countries. Until now, an agreement signed between Japan and the Soviet Union was in effect, which, however, was not applied by Armenia for legal reasons. The new initiative aims to reinstate the practice of applying such agreements. Additionally, ratifying the document will complement the agreement on the promotion and mutual protection of investments signed in 2018.
