ArmInfo. Reconstruction work on the Spandaryan Canal, which is of strategic importance for the region's border communities, has begun in Syunik.
The project is being implemented by the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund with the financial support of the French Fund Armenia and the World Food Program.
Due to the canal's deplorable condition, which serves several communities in Syunik (Tsghuk, Sarnakun, Spandaryan, Ishkhanasar, Angeghakot, and Shaki), water losses reach approximately 50%. Its length is 36 km. The region is known for its grain cultivation.
As Olivier Decotigny, the French Ambassador to Armenia, noted in his microblog in the 10th, this project is 30% financed by France. He also reported that the reconstruction will increase irrigated land by over 2,000 hectares, benefiting 8,000 beneficiaries.
