ArmInfo. Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan announced that he has published a research article in the prestigious international scientific journal Scopus, presenting an assessment of the impact of the opening of borders with Turkey and Azerbaijan on the Armenian economy.
As he noted during a briefing with journalists on September 24, the article is based on an analysis of two indices: the Export Similarity Index (ESI) and the Trade Complementarity Index (TCI).
According to Papoyan, the ESI is 0.25%. "This means that what Turkey and Azerbaijan produce and what Armenia exports are not similar products. So, we have no problems here," he explained.
At the same time, the Minister continued, the TCI is 0.5%. "This means that Turkiye and Azerbaijan produce what Armenia imports." "And what we export, they import," Papoyan noted.
Soon, he said, a second scientific article will be published in the same publication, which will specifically address the economic consequences of opening the Armenian-Turkish border, with a special focus on the routes. "We deliberately decided to publish scientific articles in such reputable international publications so that they would not become the subject of political speculation on social media," he noted.
