ArmInfo. Bright Armenia Party leader Edmon Marukyan commented on yesterday's statement by RA Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan regarding the possibility of opening a border crossing between Armenia and Turkey.
Recall that the previous day, at a meeting of the RA National Assembly Committee on Regional and Eurasian Integration, the Minister of Economy stated: "If we want to continue in the same spirit and completely destroy our state, I will not allow it. With all the tools at my disposal, I will ensure the opening of the Armenian-Turkish border and the development of this state, because it is precisely this policy that led to this situation."
In this regard, Marukyan noted that Armenia was not destroyed by the closure of the Armenian-Turkish border. "On the contrary, our state has developed dynamically and continues to do so: today, according to the IMF, Armenia is among the fastest-growing economies in the European region. What does Papoyan mean by 'this situation?'"
Perhaps he's actually speaking about a situation that has arisen as a result of their misguided political decisions. Overall, as a result of its recent transformation into the EAEU, Armenia has become one of the countries with significant economic growth, standing out for its economic dynamism. Naturally, the authorities often don't publicly announce these successes, as it's difficult to convince people that we are doomed without opening the Turkish border. Therefore, they advance a scenario in which our state and our economy are supposedly crumbling under a 35-year blockade, and propose the most vile concessions to open the border with Turkey as the only solution. If our economy is truly in good shape, then the scenario of opening the border to avoid doom is a complete myth and a false agenda. Stop constructing false narratives based on myths and presenting the Turkish border as a "sacred gateway" for our people," the politician wrote on his Facebook page.
