ArmInfo. Over the past five years, we have managed to double the GDP per capita, as stated by Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan during the debates on the draft state budget in the National Assembly.
He noted that seven years ago, the GDP per capita exceeded $4,000, while now it is around $8,500, according to World Bank data. "This is an impressive growth. I think that this year, the GDP per capita will exceed $9,000," the Minister said.
Papoyan noted that Armenia has shown significant progress in terms of quality. In this regard, he cited the Gini coefficient (a measure of income or wealth inequality in society), stating that Armenia has the lowest rate compared to its neighbors, indicating a more equal distribution of income in the country.
According to the Minister, labor market statistics also indicate qualitative changes in the economy. "Today, there are 805,000 registered jobs in the country, demonstrating an upward trend year after year," he said.
