ArmInfo. South Caucasus Railways continues to implement its investment program to modernize its railway infrastructure, including replacing a bridge structure near the city of Armavir on October 29. The bridge, which had served for over a century, was renovated in an extremely short timeframe-15 hours which minimized disruptions to train schedules. This was stated in a company statement.
According to the source, the work involved dismantling and reassembling not only the bridge itself, but also the track superstructure, overhead contact system, and other utility lines. All work was carried out by the company, and the concrete structures were manufactured by Kamurjshin.
"Construction work on engineering structures requires significant organizational and professional efforts from hundreds of SCR employees and third-party organizations. Furthermore, train schedules are often disrupted during these works. However, this work is aimed at improving traffic safety and ensuring the smooth operation of the railway. I hope our passengers understand the disruptions," noted SCR General Director Alexey Melnikov.
Despite the prompt completion of the work, four commuter trains were cancelled, and SCR apologizes for the inconvenience caused to passengers. In 2026, as part of its investment program, the company plans to reconstruct three similar engineering structures, including one metal bridge. By the end of 2025, South Caucasus Railway will invest 1 billion 860 million drams in infrastructure development and maintenance programs. The majority of this investment-1.74 billion-has already been allocated to track infrastructure, while approximately 44 million drams will be invested in electrification and power supply. This year, 7 kilometers of tracks have been replaced.
