ArmInfo. Armenia plans to ban the use of plastic bags and single-use plastics starting January 1, 2027. The corresponding decision was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers on November 14 during its regular session.
Reusable paper and fabric bags are being considered as an alternative. Business entities that violate the law will be subject to administrative penalties: a warning for the first offense, and a fine of 100,000-150,000 drams for repeat violations.
Recall, starting January 1, 2022, only bags made from recycled waste with a thickness of less than 50 microns will be allowed in stores and other retail outlets in Armenia. A ban on the sale of plastic bags thicker than 50 microns, as well as disposable plastic tableware and food packaging containers was originally planned for 2024. The draft was posted on the unified portal of legal acts back in March 2023, but the document never made it to a cabinet meeting.
