Eduard Hakobyan, Chairman of Armenia's State Revenue Committee, received an Iranian delegation led by Foroud Asgari, Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Head of the Customs Administration. The discussions focused on bilateral cooperation aimed at simplifying cross-border trade flows and control operations between Armenia and Iran.
According to the SRC press service, the necessary steps to launch a preliminary system for electronic data exchange between the customs services of both countries were also addressed, and agreements were reached. The implementation of a "Simplified Customs Corridor" at the Armenian-Iranian border was also discussed as a way to create more favorable conditions for law-abiding entities engaged in foreign economic activities.
Eduard Hakobyan noted that, significantly higher average daily throughput rates for trucks have been achieved, as a result of the implemented reforms. Additionally, a notable increase in trade turnover between the Republic of Armenia and the Islamic Republic of Iran has been observed following the implementation of mutual agreements. As part of the reforms, it is also planned to completely re-equip the border with new equipment within the next year.
Foroud Asgari, Head of the Iranian Customs Administration, emphasized the strategic importance of the Norduz-Agarak checkpoint for Iran. He stated that all possible steps are being taken to streamline the movement of goods and vehicles through the checkpoint. He also highlighted that passengers have expressed great satisfaction with the reforms and simplifications implemented for border crossing. Following the discussions, a protocol was signed.
