ArmInfo. Armenia's metallurgy industry experienced a 7% decline in the first 10 months of this year (compared to a 4% growth a year ago), according to data from the RA Statistics Committee.
The decrease in annual growth was largely due to a drop in copper concentrate, the dominant type of production, as well as the decline in ferromolybdenum and molybdenum concentrate production.
Specifically, copper concentrate production in the first 10 months amounted to 253,000 tons, a 9.1% year- on-year decline (compared to a 8.9% growth a year earlier). Molybdenum concentrate production continued its decline, decelerating from 28.5% to 14.1%, reaching 12,500 tons. Ferromolybdenum production also slowed, falling from 43.3% to 29.8%, amounting to 2,500 tons.
Additionally, zinc production slowed, falling from 32.5% to 9.3%, and steel pipe production slowed from 17.8% to 14.1%, reaching 9,400 tons and 23,000 tons, respectively. Aluminum foil production increased by 4.7% (from a 25% decline the previous year), reaching 17,200 tons over the first 10 months. All metals produced in Armenia are exported, primarily to Europe and the United States.
