ArmInfo. Another shipment of wheat is being transported to Armenia via Azerbaijan. Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan made this statement to journalists on December 15, without specifying the country of origin. Denying that fourth-grade wheat was being imported into the country, he noted that the previous shipment contained 2,000 tons of third-grade wheat.
"This is the daily bread consumption of the Armenian population, which we have already consumed," he said. He also noted that this time, the wheat in question was of second- or third-grade. He also reported that the potential of transiting other products through Azerbaijan, including bottled cognac, had been discussed. However, Papoyan noted that businesses currently consider the overland route through Georgia more feasible and safer for this particular product.
In response to a question about importing Azerbaijani petroleum products to Armenia, the Minister of Economy noted that he would personally go and meet the cargo upon its arrival in Armenia. Papoyan chose not to reveal the name of the importing company, emphasizing that it was a confidential commercial matter.
