ArmInfo. In 2025, South Caucasus Railways carried 510,000 passengers, including approximately 42,000 international passengers and 468,000 domestic passengers, according to a company statement.
During the New Year holidays (December 30 to January 6), the company carried 1,058 passengers on the Yerevan-Tbilisi-Yerevan route. Over 10,000 passengers traveled domestically. During the New Year holiday, the company operated 10 "Magic Express" charter flights with festive performances for children. During the reporting period, the number of international passengers carried was comparable to the 2024 figure, while domestic passenger numbers declined. Compared to 2024, the number of passengers traveling on the company's electric trains in 2025 decreased by 10%. The decline in domestic passenger numbers is due to two factors: the commissioning of the North-South Highway between Yerevan and Gyumri in 2025, which has led to a sharp reduction in fares, and the introduction of free community buses for students in the Ararat and Armavir regions.
According to Grant Mikaelyan, Head of the SCR Passenger Transportation Directorate, last year saw continued efforts to improve the quality of passenger service. "In particular, we began renovating and overhauling passenger platforms. The platform tiles at Yerevan Station, as well as at Araks and Aragats stations, were replaced. The Artashat platform was completely reconstructed. A special restroom for people with disabilities was installed at Yerevan Station. In this process, we were also guided by feedback from our passengers, who pointed out the need for various upgrades. Investments in the program are planned for this year as well," Mikaelyan said.
