Azerbaijan receives request from Armenia to provide transit from  Armenia to Russia - Ilham Aliyev

ArmInfo.  Azerbaijan has received a request from Armenia to provide transit from Armenia to Russia. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced this at the  panel discussion "Defining the Economic Identity of Eurasia," held as  part of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

In his speech, Aliyev acknowledged that over the years of  independence, the country has established very close business  relations with all of its neighbors, with the exception, of course,  of Armenia, for well-known reasons. "But now, after the de facto  establishment of peace, we have also begun economic cooperation and  export operations. Azerbaijan has lifted all restrictions on cargo  transportation to Armenia from Kazakhstan and Russia, and now we have  received a request from the Armenian side to provide transit from  Armenia to Russia. Thus, we have de facto and unilaterally opened  corridors. True, transportation goes through Georgia, but one day the  route will run through Armenia. The day will come when Armenian cargo  will pass directly through Azerbaijani territory, and that day is not  far off," Aliyev said.

Further recalling Azerbaijan's established close ties with Turkey and  Georgia, Aliyev stated that, thanks to the Trump Route for  International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) and the transport  connectivity project currently overseen by the United States, a new  transport corridor will be created stretching from Asia across the  Caspian Sea, then through Azerbaijan, Armenia, part of Azerbaijan  (Nakhchivan), Turkey, and on to Europe, in addition to the existing  corridors through Georgia. According to him, the more routes, the  better for consumers, suppliers, and transit countries. "But today,  especially following the parallel processes of Armenian-Azerbaijani  and Turkish-Armenian rapprochement, which are ongoing and will  undoubtedly culminate in the establishment of diplomatic relations  between Turkey and Armenia, and Azerbaijan and Armenia, we are  simultaneously transforming a vast geographic region-a part of  Eurasia that is strategically important for transport connectivity,  energy security, and peaceful stability, and serves as an example of  how protracted wars and conflicts can be transformed into partnership  and cooperation," Aliyev stated. The Azerbaijani leader again called  the achievement of peace between Yerevan and Baku a historic event,  which became a reality thanks to strong political will "on both sides  and a commitment to peace."

He also expressed his belief that both sides must demonstrate greater  results of peaceful coexistence to demonstrate the full support of  both societies in this process. "But I am very optimistic, because  what we have achieved truly brings enormous benefits to both Armenia  and Azerbaijan, as well as to the South Caucasus, and serves as an  example of how countries that were previously in very hostile  relations with each other are now moving toward cooperation," Aliyev  said.

The Azerbaijani president also once again accused international  organizations of inaction and boasted of a military solution to the  Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. "Someone had to stop this, and we decided  to do it.  Yes, it was a joint decision by the leadership of Armenia  and Azerbaijan to close this chapter and look for opportunities for  peace. And we, as I said - I think it was record speed after the war  - were able to move from a serious military clash in September 2023  to August 2025, when the Prime Minister of Armenia and I signed a  joint declaration, and the peace agreement was initialed in the  presence of President Trump.  President Trump signed the declaration  as a witness, and, as I said, we ended this war in the number one  office in the world. We should not rely on international  institutions," the Azerbaijani leader said.
