ArmInfo. As part of the North-South Road Corridor construction project, several land plots in the Meghri community of Armenia's Syunik region have been recognized as a priority public interest, as reported by the RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure. The decision has been submitted for public discussion.
According to the source, these plots of land are needed for the construction of the Kajaran-Agarak road. A total of 99 plots are subject to expropriation in the villages of Tashtun and Lichk in the enlarged Meghri community and in the city of Meghri. Under the "priority public interest" legal framework, the government argues that the benefits of the national road construction program outweigh the private property rights of individual owners. This designation allows the state to proceed with the alienation of property to ensure the project remains on schedule. The program is vital for creating an efficient transit route, increasing trade turnover and competition, reducing freight and passenger transportation costs, improving access to social services and markets, creating new jobs, and more. The formal process for the alienation and compensation of these 99 plots is scheduled to begin on December 1, 2026.
