ArmInfo. The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission has submitted a draft Agreement on Coordinated Approaches to Combat Intellectual Property Rights Violations in the information and telecommunications network "Internet" to the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union for the internal procedures required for signature.
According to the EEC press service, the document will also provide for the development of coordinated approaches by EAEU member states to restricting access to websites and online resources that illegally host counterfeit content. It is planned to provide for the possibility of blocking internet resources based on court decisions of the EAEU member state where the rights of the copyright holder were infringed. Furthermore, website owners, information intermediaries, and other participants in the digital environment will be required to take measures to restrict access to such content. Furthermore, the EAEU countries plan to create national electronic registries of internet resources to which access has been restricted due to intellectual property rights violations.
However, the Agreement does not restrict member states from taking additional measures not provided for in it. According to Bakhyt Sultanov, Minister for Economy and Financial Policy of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EAEC), all EAEU member states have completed the internal coordination of the draft, indicating that the document is ready for signature. "The agreement is an important signal for the entire media and creative community. We are creating clear and transparent rules of the game within the Union that will effectively protect the interests of copyright holders," Sultanov noted.0-
