ArmInfo. Issues related to the passage of Armenian freight trucks across the Georgian border fall under the jurisdiction of the Georgian Financial Police, which reports to the country's Ministry of Finance. Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan made this statement during a press-briefing.
He stated that Georgian Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili informed him of this during her visit to Armenia, where the Armenian side presented the existing issue at hand. According to the Georgian side, Financial Police officers have identified risks associated with certain products. However, the specific risks were not specified. Papoyan noted that the Armenian side has requested more specific detail regarding to the specific problematic issues and violations were committed by Armenian carriers.
"However, the very fact that the vehicles are idle and we are not receiving clear explanations is another matter. As far as I know, several vehicles have managed to leave, but for some carriers, the issue remains unresolved," the minister emphasized.
It should be noted that in 2026, Armenian freight carriers once again encountered serious difficulties on the Georgian section of the transit route. Since mid-February, dozens, and according to some reports, more than a hundred freight carriers, have been forced to idle in Georgia, including near the Upper Lars checkpoint. Drivers reported lengthy delays without clear official explanations, additional inspections, and actual traffic restrictions.
