ArmInfo. Armenia's economy is heavily tied to seasonality, as stated by Narek Karapetyan, a board member of the "Strong Armenia" party, led by renowned businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan.
Presenting the fourth of five steps proposed by Samvel Karapetyan to help Armenia overcome its current situation, Narek Karapetyan emphasized the need to establish procurement stations in the country's villages. What is the essence of this concept? During the season the products are exported to various countries in the region. However, when problems arise, whether in Iran or at the Upper Lars border crossing, farmers are forced to sell apricots, for example, on the domestic market at prices close to cost. As a result, Narek Karapetyan continued, apricots are sold 15-20 days in advance at below-market prices, creating significant financial risks for entrepreneurs. The establishment of procurement stations in villages will ensure high- quality purchasing and extend the season.
The video notes that these stations will resolve many issues. For instance, when the Verkhniy Lars checkpoint is closed, the price per kilogram of apricots drops to 100 drams, but with procurement stations, farmers will be able to extend the harvesting season by one month or even 40 days.
