Armenia and Russia discuss restoration of railway infrastructure

ArmInfo.Armen Simonyan, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia, met with a delegation led by Deputy Minister of Transport of Russia Dmitry Zverev to discuss the restoration and construction of the Gyumri-Akhurik - Turkish border and Yeraskh - Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic railway infrastructure.

According to the press service of the Armenian Ministry of Territorial Administration, the  parties also discussed the current cooperation in road and air  transport and agreed to continue discussions.

It is worth noting that in early February, Pashinyan told the Russian  leadership about the need to restore communication routes with  Azerbaijan and Turkey. In mid-February, Russian Deputy Prime Minister  Alexey Overchuk announced the start of substantive negotiations on  the restoration of two sections of Armenian railways,  provide  connections with the railways of Azerbaijan and Turkey. According to  the Deputy Prime Minister, the total length of the sections to be  restored is approximately 1.6 km and 12.4 km.  The negotiations are  expected to determine the technical, financial, and other modalities  for implementing this project.  South Caucasus Railways, a subsidiary  of Russian Railways, has a concession to manage Armenia's entire  railway network until 2038, and the tracks themselves adhere to the  Russian gauge standard.
