ArmInfo.Over the past two months alone, 2.5 billion drams have been allocated as compensation for the provision of medications to Armenian citizens, as stated by RA Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan during a government hour in the National Assembly on March 4.
According to her, 113,000 citizens aged 65 and above received compensation of up to 50,000 drams, while another 15,000 people of the same age group received compensation ranging from 50,000 to 100,000 drams. A similar situation is observed for citizens receiving 200,000 drams or more. Specifically, 23,675 citizens were compensated to 50,000 drams, while 162 people in this category received compensation for medical services in the amount of 2 million drams, 36 received between 2 and 4 million drams, and 12 received over 4 million drams.
Therefore, as Avanesyan emphasized, the universal health insurance system is the most important guarantee of citizens' health. Even someone earning 500,000 drams in salary is unlikely to be able to spend 4 million drams on an operation. The system also allows citizens to manage their chronic diseases themselves. The Minister also emphasized that, according to 2024 data, Armenia has a record life expectancy of 78.6 years.
