RA premier approves composition of Armenian-Hungarian  Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation

ArmInfo. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a decision and approved the list of government bodies and other structures comprising the Armenian side of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Armenia and Hungary.

Specifically, as reported on the official website of the Armenian  government, by Pashinyan's decision of March 6, the Deputy Minister  of Foreign Affairs was appointed chairman of the Armenian side of the  commission, the head of the International Cooperation Department of  the Ministry of Economy was appointed deputy chairman of the Armenian  side, and the head of the European Department of the Ministry of  Foreign Affairs was appointed secretary of the Armenian side of the  commission. The Armenian delegation also includes representatives of  the Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the  Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, the  Ministry of Health, the Ministry of High-Tech Industry, the Ministry  of Education and Science, the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of  Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of  Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, the Ministry of  Finance, and the Investment Promotion Center.

Diplomatic relations between Armenia and Hungary were frozen after  Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban reinstated Ramil Safarov as a  national "hero" in 2012, after he hacked Armenian officer Gurgen  Markaryan to death with an axe. Markaryan was undergoing military  training in Hungary.

Ten years later (in December 2022), Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat  Mirzoyan met with his Hungarian counterpart, Peter Szijjarto, on the  sidelines of the 29th OSCE Ministerial Meeting. Following the  meeting, the parties agreed to restore full diplomatic relations,  expressing their intention to open a new chapter in  Armenian-Hungarian relations based on mutual trust and respect for  international law. In May 2023, Armenia appointed a non-resident  ambassador to Hungary. This was Ashot Smbatyan. On June 5, 2025, he  was recalled by the President of Armenia and replaced by Arshavyan,  with his service residency in Budapest.
