ArmInfo. The Georgian Department of Roads has canceled international tenders announced in August 2024 for the construction of the Rustavi-Tsiteli Bridge and the Algeti-Sadakhlo highway. Furthermore, according to information published on the Department of Roads' website, the tender for construction supervision of these roads has also been canceled, as reported by the "Business Georgia" Website. In its documents, the department points out that low competition was the reason for the cancellation of the tenders.
The Rustavi-Tsiteli Bridge and the Algeti-Sadakhlo highway sections are part of the East-West and South- North international road corridors connecting Georgia with the borders of Azerbaijan and Armenia. It is worth noting that this section of the road is divided into four lots. The project included the construction of a 61.3-kilometer, four-lane, concrete highway with an outdoor lighting system. Additionally, a total of 26 bridges and 11 transport hubs were planned. Back in 2024, the Roads Department announced that construction would begin in 2025, with all four sections to be completed in stages within 30 months of the start of work. The project was co-financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the government, with the EIB providing a 250 million euro loan.
