Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure discusses  railway construction project involving Zvartnots Airport

ArmInfo. The Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia discussed the project to build a railway infrastructure linking to Zvartnots  Airport. This was reported by the ministry's press service, citing the results of a meeting between Deputy Minister Armen Simonyan and the Italian Ambassador to Armenia, Alessandro Ferranti.

Specifically, the parties discussed possible cooperation with Italian  companies within the framework of this project.

During the meeting, the Ambassador noted that direct air service  between Armenia and Italy contributes to the annual growth of  tourism, which, in turn, is generating interest among Italian  companies in participating in infrastructure development programs  being implemented in Armenia.

The Deputy Minister emphasized the importance of the existing close  partnership between the two countries in air travel, ground  transportation carried out under bilateral permits, and other areas.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue discussions  on industry-related issues. It should be noted that, according to the  Statistics Committee, 22,669 tourists from Italy visited Armenia in  2025, a 42% increase compared to the previous year.

It should be noted that the project for a new railway line to  Zvartnots International Airport was developed back in 2011. The  project envisioned a single line connecting the airport's passenger  terminal to the Charbakh metro station, and a high-speed train  connecting the cargo terminal to the Karmir Blur station.

The length of the planned line is approximately 7.5 km.

A right-of-way was required only for the new section, which is 3.9 km  long and covers 3.84 hectares. As stated in the draft government  resolution, the cost of implementing the project, excluding the costs  of land acquisition, was estimated at approximately $5 million, of  which $1.5 million was for the reconstruction of 3.6 km of the  existing roadbed, $3.1 million for the construction of 3.9 km of new  railway, and $400,000 for the construction of two artificial  structures.
