ArmInfo. Armenia has approved the creation of a free trade zone between the Eurasian Economic Union and Mongolia. The National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia is discussing a draft interim trade agreement between the EAEU and Mongolia, submitted by the Armenian government, at its plenary session on March 24.
As Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of Armenia Narek Hovakimyan noted in his speech, the agreement was signed on June 27, 2025, in Minsk. It provides for the reduction or elimination of duties on 367 tariff lines. Specifically, it provides for the elimination of duties on wheat, corn, meat, milk, automobiles, and chemical and metallurgical products exported to Mongolia. In turn, imports from Mongolia are granted tax breaks on meat, wool, textiles, and other goods.
When exporting goods from Armenia to Mongolia, the list includes the products considered a priority. This includes, in particular, zero-rated tobacco products, currently subject to a 30% duty, as well as furniture (20%), alcoholic beverages, chocolate, mineral water, fruit, light industry products, and others. Trade turnover between Armenia and Mongolia currently amounts to only $1 million, and the entry into force of this document will significantly expand the existing potential for cooperation.
The document is temporary until the conclusion of a full agreement, and its ratification and entry into force are expected by mid-2026. It will be valid for three years.
