ArmInfo. Sending Russian and Kazakh cargo to Armenia by rail via Azerbaijan and Georgia is beneficial to everyone, as evidenced by the growing number of shipments. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk stated this in an interview with TASS.
"Specialists from Russian Railways reached an agreement within just a few days to transport Russian and Kazakh cargo to Armenia via Azerbaijan and Georgia. And the first grain cargo to arrive in Armenia by rail in thirty years was Russian. Now fertilizers are starting to arrive, and the range of cargo is expanding," Overchuk stated.
He is convinced: "This is beneficial for everyone: Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia." "Everyone has a new source of income, and Russia has a direct role in this," the Deputy Prime Minister noted.
"The Russian government is interested in developing trade and increasing cargo flow between our countries," Overchuk noted. "We are grateful to Azerbaijan and Georgia for their very constructive and effective cooperation on unblocking the EAEU member state," the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
"As for other countries in the region, we have normal relations with Armenia's neighbors - Iran and Turkey. Apart from these four countries, there are no other neighbors there," Overchuk added. "As for the countries from which cargo is expected to be shipped, we are talking about the countries of Central Asia and China. We also have normal relations with all of these countries," the Deputy Prime Minister noted.
"As for where these cargoes will be sent, we told the Armenian leadership that we will not create obstacles and are interested in the effective operation of the concession. Therefore, it is unclear who from the north, south, west, or east wants to exclude Russian Railways from participating in the development of the 1520 mm common space (the area with a 1520 mm gauge - TASS note)," the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Government stated.
On October 21, 2025, the President of Azerbaijan announced the unblocking of transit cargo to Armenia. According to him, as part of these steps, Kazakh grain will be delivered from Kazakhstan to Armenia for the first time via Azerbaijan and Georgia. Official Yerevan welcomed these steps by the Azerbaijani side.
