An expert team from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is currently in Armenia to conduct seminars with representatives from relevant agencies on nuclear safety ahead of the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 17), as reported to ArmInfo by the press service of the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).
It is noted that the conference will be attended by heads of state, high-ranking officials, and representatives of international organizations, necessitating proper event planning and high-level preparation. In this regard, the Ministry has appointed officials responsible for safety. Aram Ghazaryan, Director of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Rescue Service, has been designated as the event's nuclear safety coordinator.
According to the source, an IAEA expert team will visit the main conference venues to conduct a needs assessment. The seminar agenda will include planning, preparation, and risk assessment of nuclear safety measures. During the seminars, participants were introduced to the specifics of using relevant technical means and mechanisms to effectively engage in human resources. Experts shared safety models used at major events in Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and France.
"Thanks to meetings in this format and cooperation with international partners, Armenia continues to strengthen its capabilities to ensure the safe and effective conduct of COP 17," the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs concluded.
