ArmInfo. The State Revenue Committee of Armenia (SRC) is planning to implement a smart customs administration system, that will enable a transition from linear risk management to a model based on machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI), as stated by Eduard Hakobyan, Chairman of the SRC, speaking at the Doing Digital forum.
He clarified that it would facilitate a comprehensive analysis of economic profiles while simultaneously utilizing open-source data, significantly simplifying the work of customs authorities.
Hakobyan noted that smart border management, or smart customs administration, involves several stages. The first, he said, is the development of a unified electronic platform that will allow for the management of all processes at land border crossings. According to the head of the Committee, this will help consolidate data and ensure seamless integration between databases and systems in Armenia and other countries.
Furthermore, the implementation of an electronic cargo flow management system is planned, so that all necessary data will be available even before a vehicle arrives at the border. According to Hakobyan, the State Revenue Committee has also developed a digital system for managing queues at checkpoints. Plans include the introduction of a new mobility system that will automatically determine the weight of a vehicle without requiring it to stop, as well as the installation of modern X-ray equipment using AI technologies. He noted that contactless inspection tools will be used, significantly speeding up the process of cargo crossing the border.
Furthermore, smart customs administration includes the introduction of devices that provide real-time digital tracking of cargo throughout the country. "Taken together, these measures will allow us to provide world-class services along the entire route, including shipments under the TRIPP (Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity) program," Hakobyan said.
