Armenian authorities intend to independently restore rail service to  Turkey - RA premier

ArmInfo.Armenian authorities intend to independently restore rail service to Turkey and begin repairs to the Yeraskh railway junction. This was announced by RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during the election campaign.

According to him, the restoration of the Gyumri-Akhurik-Akyaka  railway section toward the Turkish province of Kars will begin in the  very near future. Pashinyan noted that work has already begun on the  Turkish side. With the modernization of the Gyumri-Akhurik railway,  the railway will reopen.

Regarding the repairs to the Yeraskh railway junction, the Prime  Minister noted that despite the concession agreement with the Russian  Federation, the country's authorities also intend to implement the  project independently. "We want to invest, repair the railway,  restore it, and put it into operation," Pashinyan noted.

He added that major events await Armenia in the coming years related  to the implementation of the TRIPP project. Preparations are  currently underway to sign an agreement with the United States as  part of the announced agreements. The Prime Minister noted that when  the project is completed, a railway will be built through Meghri,  which will go to Nakhichevan, from there to Yeraskh, from Yeraskh to  Gyumri, from Gyumri to Akhurik, and from there to Turkey. The project  will also open a railway to Iran. "Therefore, we will have rail  service from the Persian Gulf all the way to the Black Sea - to the  ports of Batumi, Poti, and Anaklia. This will significantly change  the economic situation in Armenia," Pashinyan stated.

As a reminder, the TRIPP (Trump Route for International Peace and  Prosperity) program is a geopolitical initiative to create a  transportation corridor through Armenia's Syunik Province. The  project aims to unblock regional communications, connect the mainland  of Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan, and integrate it into international  trade networks.
