Armenia and Iran discussed measures to increase border capacity

ArmInfo.  A working group on increasing throughput capacity on the Armenian-Iranian border met in Yerevan, chaired by Armenian Deputy Minister of Economy Edgar  Zakaryan and Iranian Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development  Reza Akbari.

The participants discussed issues related to road tolls, the  development of logistics infrastructure, and the operation of border  checkpoints.

Edgar Zakaryan noted that the Armenian Ministry of Economy attaches  great importance to further deepening trade and economic cooperation  between Armenia and Iran, as well as diversifying logistics  capabilities.

The Deputy Minister expressed hope that the modernization and  technical re-equipment of border infrastructure will provide  additional impetus for the growth of mutual trade turnover. It should  be noted that, according to the Statistical Committee of the Republic  of Armenia, foreign trade turnover between Armenia and Iran increased  by 6.7% in January-April 2026, reaching $237.4 million. Exports,  however, decreased by 20.7% to $25.1 million, while imports increased  by 11.2% to $212.3 million.
