ArmInfo.Spring and June 2026 in Armenia were characterized by exceptional climatic conditions: it was one of the wettest periods in recent decades, significantly changing the country's water resource situation. Levon Azizyan, Director of the Center for Hydrometeorology and Monitoring of the RA Ministry of Environment, announced this at a press conference on June 24.
According to him, this spring was the wettest since 1935. Precipitation totaled 260 mm, which is 131% of the norm. March was particularly notable, being the wettest month on record in Armenia. Record snow cover was recorded in the high mountain regions. On March 28, the snow depth at the Aragats high-altitude meteorological station reached 324 cm, a record high in the station's history.
Due to heavy precipitation, river runoff volumes significantly exceeded normal (130-150%). This allowed the republic's major reservoirs to almost completely fill. As of June 24, the combined capacity of the five largest reservoirs was 826 million cubic meters, 192 million more than last year. The Akhuryan reservoir is 105% full, Aparan is 101% full, and Azat is 100%. The year also proved rich in water for Lake Sevan. "The current level of Lake Sevan is 1900.73 meters, the highest in the last 10 years; its level has risen by 15 cm," said Levon Azizyan.
