ArmInfo. During his working visit to Tehran, RA Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan met with Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Khudatyan noted with satisfaction the progress of construction of the Kajaran-Agarak road section. According to the Armenian minister, the Islamic Republic of Iran plays a significant role in Armenia's infrastructure programs, demonstrating the strong economic cooperation and friendly relations established between the two countries. During the meeting, in addition to issues related to road construction, cooperation in the transport and aviation sectors was also discussed. The parties agreed to take the necessary steps to increase freight traffic between the two countries. The initiative to build a second bridge across the Araks River on the Armenian-Iranian border was also discussed. It was noted that its implementation will increase the capacity of transport routes between the two countries and contribute to the further development of economic cooperation.
As a reminder, design work on the new bridge across the Araks River began in late 2023. Yerevan is considering constructing the new bridge next to the existing bridge, built in 1995. In August 2025, it was announced that Armenia and Iran had agreed to build a second bridge across the Araks River.
The construction of the 32-kilometer Kajaran-Agarak section (the North-South road corridor in Armenia's Syunik region) is being carried out by the Iranian consortium of Abad Rahan Pars International Group and Tunnel Sadd Ariana. The project cost is approximately $214.4 million. The project includes the construction of 17 bridges, two tunnels, and five interchanges.
