ArmInfo.Chairperson of the Tourism Committee of Armenia Lusine Gevorgyan visited Areni, where she met with Community Head Husik Sahakyan and Zarouhi Muradyan, Director of the Vine and Wine Foundation of Armenia, to discuss the progress of the Areni Wine Cluster investment project and upcoming initiatives.
According to the Tourism Committee's press service, the project aims to strengthen wine tourism, improve local infrastructure, and further position Areni as one of Armenia's leading wine and tourism destinations.
Recall, the government is investing at least $12 million in the construction of a wine cluster in Areni (Vayots Dzor Province). It's worth noting that, according to the RA Statistics Committee, wine production in Armenia decreased by 23.3% in 2025, reaching 7.7 million liters.
According to customs data, in the first half of 2025, Armenia's wine exports decreased by 31.8%, compared to a 3.6% increase the previous year, reaching 1.4 million liters. Meanwhile, the customs value of exported wine decreased by 12.6%, to $7.3 million.
The main sales market is Russia (70% compared to 82.7% a year ago). The United States (6.6%), Poland (3.3%), China and France (2.5% each), Belgium (1.9%), the Netherlands and Lithuania (1.7% each), Canada (1.2%), Italy (0.8%), Germany and Kazakhstan (0.7% each) were next in line. Smaller volumes were supplied to Argentina, India, Greece, Belarus, Bulgaria, Brazil, Japan, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Spain, and Israel. Less than 1,000 liters were exported to Angola, the UAE, Iceland, Latvia, Cyprus, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Norway, and Sweden.
