ArmInfo. Armenia plans to expand its laboratory testing capabilities to conduct isotopic analyses of locally produced wine and brandy. During its August 20 meeting, the Armenian government decided to allocate 32.2 million drams to the Republican Center for Phytosanitary and Sanitary Services for the procurement of advanced laboratory equipment.
The rationale for the draft decision notes that the laboratory currently has the capacity to test four to five samples per day. However, the installation of the new equipment will increase its processing capacity to 15 samples daily.
Isotopic analysis is used to verify the authenticity of wine and brandy—specifically determining whether the beverages are produced from grapes or alternative raw materials. Additionally, this research helps identify the geographical origin of the grapes used in production.
