On August 21, $193.7 million was purchased at an average rate of 364.93 drams/$1 and $179.7 million was sold at an average rate of 365.40 drams/$1 on the intra-bank foreign exchange market in Armenia. This is more than 4-5 times more than the purchase and sale volumes of the previous day (August 20), with the buying rate increasing by 1.35 points and the selling rate decreasing by 0.5 points. Moreover, from Monday through Thursday inclusive, the volume of dollar purchases on the intra-bank foreign exchange market fluctuated within the range of $27-42.4 million and sales - in the range of $42.4-68.7 million, and the rate in both cases decreased. This is evidenced by data from the Central Bank of Armenia.
From August 17 to 21, a total of $335.6 million was purchased and $388.4 million was sold on the intrabank foreign exchange market, with a weekly increase of 2-2.2 times. The average buy-and-hold rate for the reporting week was 364.14 drams/$1, while the sell-and-hold rate was 366.04 drams/$1, down 0.37-1.12 points, respectively, compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, only three dollar transactions were conducted on the Armenian interbank currency market from August 17 to 21, despite the weekly volume of $17 million being only 3% lower than the previous week's figure ($17.5 million, with a 12-fold weekly increase). The average exchange rate for the reporting week decreased from 366.73 drams/$1 to 365.37 drams/$1. However, the maximum volume of dollar transactions on the interbank currency market was recorded on Wednesday (August 19) – $9.5 million.
On the retail currency market from August 17 to 21 of this year, The dram began to strengthen against the dollar, from 365.5 to 364 drams/$1, while continuing to weaken against the euro, from 421.5 to 423.5 drams/€1, and set itself for devaluation against the ruble, from 4.14 to 4.19 drams/€1. A year earlier, on August 21, 2025, the dram exchange rate to the dollar was 382.5 drams/$1, to the euro - 446 drams/€1, and to the ruble - 4.75 drams/€1. Compared to current rates, this indicates an annual revaluation of the dram against the dollar, euro, and ruble by 5%, 5%, and 12%, respectively.
According to the Central Bank of Armenia, on the interbank currency market from August 17 to 21 of this year, Ruble transactions were also conducted daily, with dollar transactions occurring simultaneously on Tuesday and Wednesday (August 18 and 19), and both dollar and euro transactions on Friday (August 21). Moreover, euro transactions reappeared on the interbank currency market after a week-long absence. As a result, the weekly volume of ruble transactions amounted to 1.425 billion rubles at an average rate of 4.32 drams/1 RUB (versus 4.39 drams/1 RUB the week before). The volume of a single euro transaction amounted to 1 million euros at an average rate of 426 drams/1 EUR. The maximum volume of ruble transactions occurred on Monday (August 17) – 470 million rubles. Nevertheless, dollar transactions remained dominant on the interbank currency market, with a slight gap between them and ruble transactions, but a 14-fold advantage over euro transactions.
Dynamics of currency transactions on the intrabank market from August 17 to 21 of this year. Compared to the previous week (10-14.08.26) changed as follows: the trend of buying and selling dollars came out of stagnation to an impressive growth of 2-2.2 times, for euro transactions, the trend of buying went from a 27.3% decline to a high 67.3% growth accompanied by a slowdown in the decline in sales from 8.4% to 8%, and for ruble transactions, the trend of buying went from a 14% decline to 10.6% with a reversal of the sales vector in the opposite direction - from 14% growth to 4% decline. As a result, during the reporting week, in addition to the above-mentioned large volumes of buying and selling dollar transactions, 74.2 million euros were purchased at an average rate of 420.05 drams / 1 EUR and 10.1 billion rubles. at an average rate of 4.22 dr/1RUB, and 47.6 million euros were sold at an average rate of 426.72 dr/1EUR and 3.6 billion rubles at an average rate of 4.37 dr/1RUB. On Monday, the intrabank foreign exchange market recorded its highest volumes of euro sales and ruble purchases (August 17 - 11.5 million euros and 2.4 billion rubles). Then, Tuesday saw the highest volume of ruble sales (August 18 - 888.3 million rubles). And at the end of the week, on Friday (August 21), the highest volumes of dollar purchases and euro purchases were recorded (August 21 - $193.7-179.6 million and 18.6 million euros).
According to the Central Bank of Armenia, in the first half of 2026, the Central Bank intervened in the foreign exchange market for $1.161 billion, strengthening the exchange rate from 381.49 drams/$1 in December to 368.20 drams/$1 in June, and these were only purchase operations.

On the interbank foreign exchange market in the first half of 2026, dollar transactions totaled $334.3 million, euro transactions totaled 5.3 million, and ruble transactions totaled - 21.4-22.2 billion rubles. Moreover, no euro transactions were made in March-June. On the interbank currency market during this period, the dram weakened against the ruble to 5.01 drams/1 ruble and strengthened against the dollar to 368.34 drams/1 dollar, compared to 4.88 drams/1 ruble and 381.33 drams/1 dollar in December 2025. As a reminder, ruble transactions on the Armenian interbank currency market started on March 14, 2022.
On the currency exchange platform, in the first half of 2026, dollar transactions worth $26.4 million were conducted, accompanied by a strengthening of the dram to 368.38 drams/1 dollar in June from 387.75 drams/1 dollar in October, when the exchange last saw the... dollar transactions.
