Since Russia imposed restrictions on Armenian exports to the Eurasian Economic Union (from June 1 to September 1), Armenia has exported approximately 30,000 tons of fruits and vegetables, including 21,000 tons of fruits and 9,000 tons of vegetables. This was stated by Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan in an interview with Armenian Public Television.
The minister also noted that the geography of these exports is quite broad, encompassing France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Latvia, Lithuania, and even Arab countries such as Qatar, Kuwait, etc. Russia, according to Papoyan, is not on this list. Touching on a specific group of commodities, such as apricots, the minister noted that shipment volumes (11,000 tons) are lower than last year's figures, as this year's harvest was smaller.
Furthermore, the minister noted with satisfaction the successes in agricultural exports. Specifically, according to Papoyan, agricultural exports amounted to $850 million from January to July, compared to $865 million for the same period in 2025. He also expressed confidence that last year's figure would be exceeded by the end of the year.
Regarding fish exports, the minister reported that Armenia had managed to send a limited volume of fish to Georgia, and after lengthy negotiations, the first 60-ton shipment of fish was sent today to the UAE.
Papoyan acknowledged that Russian restrictions had been a major blow to the Armenian economy, but the country had not entered a crisis. In this regard, he noted that GDP growth for the first half of the year was 6%, and the economic activity indicator exceeded 7%.
As a reminder, Russian authorized bodies—Rospotrebnadzor and Rosselkhoznadzor—have imposed restrictions on the export of fresh agricultural produce, flowers, fish, and dairy products from Armenia to the markets of EAEU countries since the end of May of this year. The authorities' official statements stated that the reason for these restrictions was the identified violations. It is worth noting that Armenia traditionally exported approximately 90% of its fresh agricultural produce to the Russian market. Flowers and fish products were also primarily supplied to the EAEU market.
