ArmInfo. As a result of large-scale investigative measures conducted by the State Revenue Committee, a case of underreporting sales revenue in the clothing retail sector was uncovered, on a particularly large scale. This was reported by the State Revenue Committee.
According to the source, as part of the analysis conducted by the 15th Department of the State Revenue Committee, data reflected in the company's tax calculations was compared with a number of indicators characterizing actual business volumes. Based on the significant discrepancies identified, the company was assessed as high-risk, after which targeted and large-scale investigative measures were carried out. The company's internal accounting documents, as well as data stored on its computers, were obtained.
As a result, it was discovered that a company engaged in the retail sale of expensive branded clothing in Yerevan accepted cash payments for a portion of clothing sales, but failed to provide corresponding receipts and incompletely reflected these transactions in tax calculations. A comprehensive review of the obtained materials revealed that the company underreported its actual sales revenue by approximately 9 billion 460 million drams. Based on the obtained factual data, the damage to the state budget was also calculated, which exceeds 1 billion 500 million drams.
As a result of operational and investigative activities, a report of an apparent crime, as defined by the relevant article of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, was sent to the RA Investigative Committee. Based on the report, a criminal case was opened, and urgent investigative actions were carried out.
"The State Revenue Committee will continue targeted, risk-based investigative measures aimed at identifying cases of tax evasion, reducing shadow tax revenues, and ensuring a level playing field for bona fide economic operators," the department said in a statement.
