ArmInfo. Armenia's economy may face serious problems. Narek Karapetyan, leader of the opposition "Strong Armenia" parliamentary faction, stated this at a meeting of the National Assembly's Committee on Financial, Credit, and Budgetary Affairs on September 9.
According to the opposition figure, the country's exports declined in the first half of 2026. At the same time, imports increased. As a result, the country's trade balance is 20% worse than the same period last year, according to Narek Karapetyan. Moreover, capital flight has begun to be observed. In the first six months of this year, $2.6 billion more was taken out of the country than was brought in.
All this suggests that the country is spending more than it receives. Moreover, the faction leader continued, this is amid three main challenges: deteriorating relations with one of Armenia's main partners, Russia, which is evidence of the unprofessional work of the Foreign Ministry; continued decline in exports, which will lead to dangerous phenomena with the trade balance; and an expected rise in gas prices. These problems indicate the need to quickly develop a program for the development of domestic industry, the products of which will reduce the rate of decline in exports. "We will have problems in the very near future: Russia will stop buying Armenian goods, and there is also a risk of a revision of the gas price," Narek Karapetyan stated.
