Arminfo. A delegation headed by Eduard Hakobyan, Chairman of the State Revenue Committee of the Republic of Armenia, paid a working visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to the SRC press service, during the visit Eduard Hakobyan met with a delegation headed by Foroud Asgari, Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance of the Islamic Republic of Iran and head of the Customs Administration. At the meeting, the sides highlighted the latest steps aimed at strengthening cooperation and noted the need for closer interaction on various issues in the future. A number of issues of mutual interest aimed at simplifying cross-border trade flows and control operations between the two countries were discussed. In particular, emphasizing the importance of the regular exchange of advance data as an important tool for facilitating mutual trade and ensuring security, the sides outlined the steps necessary for the earliest possible launch of the system. The work on the mutual recognition of authorized economic operators between the sides and steps toward reaching a final agreement were also mentioned. As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached to extend the agreement on the joint use of the Meghri-Norduz border crossing point. Issues related to monitoring the volume of transit flows across the border and introducing mechanisms aimed at increasing these volumes were also discussed.
As part of the visit, the SRC delegation also visited the Norduz crossing point, where Iran’s achievements in the digitalization of the customs system were presented. Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed.
Eduard Hakobyan noted that Armenia is currently moving decisively along the path of regional development, stability and expanding ties. The SRC Chairman emphasized that the best way to confront regional challenges and achieve shared prosperity is to join efforts based on mutual trust. "In this context, the need for mutual contribution to the development of the two countries as important regional logistics hubs is also essential. This mutual development and close cooperation are of great importance for bilateral economic growth and sustainable regional development," Eduard Hakobyan noted.
Following the meeting, a protocol was signed on organizing the exchange of advance information on goods and vehicles transported through the territories of the Republic of Armenia and the Islamic Republic of Iran ("Simplified Customs Corridor"), the main purpose
of which is to create more favorable conditions for law-abiding participants in foreign economic activity and expedite procedures related to customs control and formalities. The sides also signed a protocol on the agreements reached during the meeting.
