Arminfo. Armenia’s Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan received Sheikha Nasser Al-Nawais, Secretary-General of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). The meeting took place within the framework of the International Conference on Medical Tourism being held in Yerevan.
During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for the development of tourism in Armenia, ways to improve the presentation of the country’s tourism potential in international markets, industry development strategies, and data analysis.
Particular attention was paid to opportunities for the development of medical tourism. The interlocutors emphasized the importance of cooperation between the healthcare and tourism sectors in order to position Armenia in the international market as an attractive medical tourism destination and effectively utilize the industry’s development potential.
Sheikha Nasser Al- Nawais announced that Armenia would be offered 100 scholarships to participate in courses at the UN World Tourism Organization’s online academy, with the aim of developing the knowledge and professional skills of industry specialists.
It should be noted that, according to the Tourism Committee, 1.467 million tourists visited Armenia in January-August 2026, which is 1.7% lower than the figure recorded a year earlier.
