The Chairman of the Water Committee of Armenia, Aramazd Ghalamkaryan, and representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission discussed the need to revise the Water Code or develop a new one, current fees for environmental use, and the Armenian government's vision for transforming water resources management.
According to the press service of the Water Committee of Armenia, integrated water resources management, the formation of coordinating bodies at the political and technical level, and clarification of the roles and responsibilities of various structures were also discussed in this context.
The meeting also discussed planned reforms in the irrigation sector, in particular, issues of increasing the efficiency of companies engaged in irrigation water supply and consumption, strengthening accountability mechanisms, and improving tariff policy.
At the end of the meeting, at the request of the IMF representatives, the Chairman of the Water Committee presented the current progress of work on the establishment of the Land and Water Committee, as well as the main results expected from the planned changes.
