The temporary ban on cement imports from third countries to Armenia will be lifted

ArmInfo. The temporary ban on cement imports from third countries to Armenia will be lifted.

The corresponding decision was made at a government meeting on October 1.

The rationale for the draft decision recalls that the restriction was imposed for six months—from July 23, 2026, to January 23, 2027. At the same time, cement imports were regulated by licensing and a state duty of 8,000 drams per ton. The government explained the need to lift the ban by the situation on the domestic market. Due to logistical problems, cement imports have become more expensive, and delivery times have increased. The current restrictions have affected the balance of supply and demand and created an unequal playing field for product sales. The government They hope that lifting the ban will help balance the market and ensure the necessary supply.

It should be noted that Iran remains the main supplier of imported cement to Armenia. In September 2026, an acute shortage and rising prices for cement emerged on the domestic market, prompting construction companies to warn of the risk of supply disruptions and stagnation. Difficulties have also arisen in the operations of Armenia's main cement producers. Supplies from Iran have decreased and are unstable, with large queues of trucks forming at the border. The Armenian Ministry of Economy also linked the shortage to disruptions in supplies from neighboring countries.
